expressway is busy, moving route three north and 23 north speed limit rides. following breaking news out of lynn this morning, firefighters rescue two people as flames tear through this home, but four others are still missing. >> let's get straight to susie steimle leave with the breaking details, susie? >> reporter: good morning, bree and kathryn, still a very active scene in lynn, just getting an update from the chief a couple moments ago about those four people who are unaccounted for when he started telling us they couldn't go back inside to look for those people because this building is not structurally sound. we've got a great example of that as a portion of the roof collapsed, you heard an audible gasp from reporters who were waiting to hear more details from the chief and he took off running to make sure that all of his guy over there are okay, we're expecting to check in with him about exactly what happened but that's the difficulty we're facing and you can see why, if you take a look at the video

was a very active fire engulfing the entire structure, the two and a half story home, they say four people right now are unaccounted for and they did find two women inside when they first entered the building, a woman who is 18 years old and a woman in her 60s, both of them taken to the hospital with minor injuries, burns, they're in stable condition, expected to be okay. we caught up with the chief a little while ago about the difficulty of fighting this fire. >> as you can see, heavy damage to all the buildings, really, really tough fire to fight, tough to make access to it, dead end street, so, crews are toeug -- doing the best they can right now to account for all the victims. >> reporter: so, still a lot of details coming in, still a lot of work for the fire crews to do and a lot of difficulty as this is not only, not structurally sound building at this point in time but also a dead end street that make it very difficult to neighborhood in lynn, we'll

and the fire chief throughout the morning, for now live in lynn, susie steimle, wbz this morning. new pictures from the has -- massacre in california, as horrific as this was, it could've been worse, the two suspects armed with arsenal and weapons, syed farook and his wife had even more explosives and ammunitions at their home. >> and their link to terrorism, farook was on contact with social media with known islamic extremists the fbi had been watching, the arsenal in the cup -- couple's home including a dozen pipe bombs and one of the victims a woman from ham, chris martinez with the latest in san bernardino. >> reporter: thousands gathered in a prayer vigil to remember

bernardino, the focus turn to what motivated syed farook and his wife tashfeen malik to execute mass murder. >> we are in so much shock. >> reporter: sara and her husband fa ra were related to the suspects who died in a shootout with police. >> i could never imagine my brother or my sister-in-law doing something like this, especially because they were happily married they have a beautiful 6-month-old daughter. >> reporter: investigator say farook travelled to saudi arabia and pakistan last year, and returned with malik who came to the u.s. on a fiancee visa. while the couple was not on any terror watch list, law enforcement sources tell cbs news farook had been in contact with people both in the u.s. and overseas with possible ties to terrorism. >> what it adds up to me, is this is a guy probably al-qaeda. >> reporter: officials recovered thousands of bullets and more than a dozen pipe bombs inside the couple's home, those

lights and radio controlled toys. >> they were equipped and could be able to do another attack, we intercepted them before that happened. >> reporter: authorities now searching for the person they say legally bought two military style rifles used in the massacre. chris martinez, cbs news, san bernardino, california. >> one of the 21 people injured in at this time attack is a new hampshire native, amanda gaspard was in charge of the holiday party at the social services center. the 32-year-old originally from hinsdale was shot several times new this morning, hearing from her sister. amanda gaspard's sister tells us she's having a hard time with the woound and the emotional trauma but lindsey gaspard says my sister is one of the strongest people i know and she has incredible faith in god so we know she'll get through this. she also says amanda quote specifically want to do thank the first responders, paramedic

her and the victims. the 32-year-old moved to california three years ago where she works as a restaurant inspector for the county. her family travelled to be with amanda in the hospital. in an interview with the adventist review, her mother described what happened during the holiday party. quote she was in charge of the meeting that day in god's mercy she had just dismissed everyone for a short break or there would've been more people in the room. we believe that because of her loving-kindness, the shooter did not kill her. he stood over her and shot her, he could easily have aimed at her head but shot at her leg instead. relatives say amanda was in surgery most of thursday, she was shot several times in the leg and the arm, and had shrapnel in her head, but she's expected to recover. well the violence in california and also in paris has a lot of people thinking twice at large events, hundreds crowded the boston commons for the tree lighting there last night.

but they're more aware of their surroundings, the pointer family witnessed the boston marathon bombings and they tell us the recent violence makes the fear very real again. >> we step back in a large crowd and don't get involved we're really aware from now on which is a bit sad but that's the way our world is turning out to be. >> boston police officers were among, very visible on the ground there, there were no issues we should note. developments are rapidly changing with this story, of course the california massacre we're talking about for the very latest on the investigation, be sure to stay with cbs news and wbz this morning both on air and online. a police officer who grew up in melrose and was killed at a shooting at a planned parenthood clinic will be laid to rest today. funeral services will be headline this afternoon for officer garret swasey, an honor guard from the melrose police department will be there. swasey was killed responding to a shooting at a planned parenthood clinic in colorado

two other were killed, nine injured. it is 5:08 right now, testimony resumes today in the trial of a teenager accused of killing his teacher at danvers high school, but jurors not hearing testimony about how philip chism's brain differs from other people his own age. a judge says evidence suggesting chism had schizophrenia or traumatic brain injury is too prejudicial, the defense claims he did kill her but was insane at the time, the teen was not in court yesterday. an arrest in connection with daidly shooting outside a bar near fenway park, a dorchester man wounded in the shooting now facing weapons charges, he and another man got in a shootout outside who's on first thanksgiving morning, conductor cherry was shot in the shooting, police say cherry was an innocent bystander. police are still investigating who fired the fatal shot.

introduce their new $217 million man at fenway park today and for the first time we're hearing from david ortiz on the deal. price underwent a physical in boston yesterday, the 30-year-old pitcher dealed with the red sox is for seven years, so that mean he'll earn $31 million a season. how about that? price and poppy, kind of tense history, it started in the 2013 playoffs, price xwlaining -- com complaining about ortiz admiring a homer, ortiz had to be restrained from going after price. last night ortiz told the boston globe everything is fine, everybody had their moment on the field now we're teammates, got to turn the page i'm going to help him the most he's going to help me the most to win ball games and that's what matters. ortiz also said the red sox called to ask his thoughts before agreeing to the deal with price. interesting.

several months, seeing a lot more of those videos, that's for sure. the drought conditions, drought monitor comes out and gets updated every thursday morning, the latest here in boston, 9.4 inches below where we should be, all the way back to january 1. and the running tally continues, worcester 8.4 inches of rain below average, abnormally dry to moderate drought conditions still out there, this does not include the rain we had from yesterday, that will get updated next thursday. so i'll keep you updated. but not a lot of rain in the forecast, in fact, no rain for today on the satellite radar picture, we're starting off nice and clear, and cool, 39 degrees in boston right now, real feel temperature, 32 when you factor in that light breeze from the west, it makes a big difference out there, feels like the 20s in some spots too, it actually is 27 degrees in keene, 34 in worcester, 40 chatham, that's the hotspot for the this morning, highs today ramp up in the mid and upper 40s, rebounding nicely with full

the 30s upper 20s, areas of patchy frost as we head in to your weekend forecast, and saturday morning, a cold start but we get up to 50 degrees with mostly sunny skies, sunday 57 degrees, and that's great news for the patriots game day forecast, kathryn! if you're heading to the game, kick off weather 54 degrees, light breeze from the southwest and in the 4th quarter and hopefully when they get that win, 44 degrees still not bad. hour by hour forecast for today, we keep it dry there is a weak cold front that's going to move in from the north but it fizzles out as it continues to push south ward, high pressure dominating both saturday and sunday, and that's why we keep you dry, lots of sunshine on tap, and sunday is the first day of hanukkah, the season is here, monday, 52 degrees, tuesday 45; wednesday 41; thursday 48 and yesterday i had a chance for a coastal storm, tuesday and wednesday, forecast models all over the place on this one, today they're going opposite of what i said yesterday, and so, we'll keep an eye on it,

weather we've been enjoying all fall could well continue deep in to the winter season. the el nino system is expected to hold off that hideous polar vortex that kept us in the deep freeze last winter, and while they're not entirely sure, there's evidence it could keep the mild weather going right through until spring, just imagine: no iceberg-sized snow banks to go where you go, when we cheer on the pats super bowl victory parade, no ice dams, no sore backs and shoulders from hours of you know what, consider the economic boosts from having parking spaces when you go out shopping, the clubs and theaters won't have to worry they won't surprise another snow pocalypse and the fact is, we need a break.

active scene, we're going to check back in with susie steimle for the latest developments for you. checking our other top stories an intelligence official says the gunman who kills four people in san bernardino this week has been in contact with known islamic extremists on social media, syed farook and his wife tashfeen malik had enough bullets and bombs to slaughter hundreds of people, both killed in a police shootout. the daily talk in the wake of a mass shooting, a new york sheriff is urging citizens to arm themselves, the sheriff's facebook post has received more than 20,000 likes so far but not everybody in favor of his advice, robi is here to explain. >> captain paul van blark is the captain in upstate new york, his comment in response to the
